5533 is a non-profit, independent artist initiative located in İstanbul Textile Market. Co-founded in 2007 by two artists from different generations, Nancy Atakan and Volkan Aslan, 5533 aims to establish, within the Istanbul art context, a space to bring together people from different locations, disciplines, occupations, and backgrounds. 5533 functions without an official status or long-term plans. They initiate contemporary art projects based on art-related research, critical reflection, dialogue, collaboration, interaction, discussion, and sharing. At 5533 a spirit of experimentation without fear of failure is encouraged. Usually on a one or two year basis, over the years, several voluntary directors have been appointed. Starting in January 2021, with a grant from SAHA, for an indefinite period of time, artist Can Küçük became director and has organized a series of projects.
